MT 202

Post by Finance » Tue Jan 30, 2018 3:32 am

A bank in china (Chinese bank) has presented documents under a letter of credit issued by a bank in the USA (USA bank)

The cover letter states “please make payment under MT 202 to our account number 12345 with Bank ABC BIC ABCDEFGH"

USA Bank maintains it’s own account at the federal reserve and can therefore send the payment via Fedwire (USA RTGS) directly to ABCDEFGH without the need for SWIFT.

How would USA bank effect the MT 202? In theory it could send the payment via Fedwire directly to ABCDEFGH and then an MT 202 cover to ABCDEFGH. However, if USA bank does not have an RMA with ABCDEFGH, how would they send the MT 202?

Does anyone have any practical experience in this matter?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi Pal,

IMHO, the instructions are not correct. Usually it is written" Please credit our account no....
with Bank....Swift Code.... UID ....... etc."
However this does not affect the documents compliance....
Other comments appreciated
Ciao
