CY/CY TERMS ON SHIPMENT

Post by mohiuddin » Tue Nov 27, 2012 6:00 pm

Dear Jabra,

CY/CY (Container Yard To Container Yard): The term CY/CY means containers packed by shipper off Carrier's premises and delivered by shipper to Carrier's CY and accepted by consignee at Carrier's CY and unpacked by consignee off Carrier's premises, all at the risk and expense of cargo.

CY/CY Container Service:
The CY/CY (read as ‘CY to CY’) container service—door-to-door container service or house-to-house container service—broadly means that the whole container received by the carrier is packed at the shipper’s or the forwarder’s premises, and the delivery of that same whole container to the consignee’s premises.

In a related term door-to-door service, which is often used in the cargo forwarding and may involve the LCL, refers to a type of freight service available from a forwarder whereby the cargo is picked up at the consignor’s premises and delivered to the consignee’s premises.

Hi Pal,

IMHO CY/CY refer to a container that is FCL, goods for the same importer/buyer. The container has been taken up at seller's warehouse and shipped to buyer's warehouse, but delvered to a specific yard. The other terms is CFS/CFS where the container is filled and unloaded at consolidator's yard at port of loading and port of discharge.
