Customer sent direct collection then request docs return

Simple is Beautiful; the only thing came in my mind when thought of documentary collection. And I think more and more people are thinking the same in these days. Documentary Collection offers us far greater security than selling on open account; but not as much as a documentary credit. We should therefore be more cautious before starting selling using this method of payment. Documentary Collection Forum is an effort to help you on this way – admin; besttradesolution.com

Customer sent direct collection then request docs return

Post by TradeLaporte » Thu Sep 19, 2013 12:59 am

Hi members need your valuable opinions on remedies for the following scenario
Customer sent direct collection to a bank in Southamerica after 2 months request documents to be return. Documents got return to our bank offices then 2 weeks it appear docs are not found . Customer claiming a loss to our bank due to the fact that we did not returned originals including BL . Is there a remedy for customer to get an original to be reissue if he needs to provide proof of shipment to the insurance?

Thanks for your advise

Hi Pal,

first of all are the docs sent under URC? If yes, the liability is for your customer that may report to the authority the loss of documents and depending if to the order or consigned, ask the shipping company for a replacing bill of lading etc.
It may cost time and money.
However it depends on the documents, specially in which way the bill of lading has been filled.
Other comments appreciated
Ciao
