Data on bill of lading

Post by picant » Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:35 pm

Hi Pal,

bills of lading's goods description is solely furnished by the shipper and not checked by the carrier,
so called Shipper' load and count. the only datum is the container gross weight!
Other comments appreciated
Ciao

In case L/C conditions impose so, you should instruct the carrier/agent to insert the required data.
As a customary practice, the B/L issuer would insert a total gross weight of the goods for all containers. The net weight is optional and it is the responsibility of interested party to have the net weight inserted as well

Weight in B/L

Latest as per VGM, if we approach, lets say,method-2, the things brings the urgency of Gross weight to shipping line. Although VGM doesn't mandates the stipulation of Gross weight in M/BL. But yet, if any issue arises, regarding gross mass discrepancy, then it is always wise to mention total gross weight in M/BL. Nonetheless, different countries following different rules on weight. Since showing weight/container is a key part of Import manifestation regardless of M/BL and H/BL, hence by default, it mandates to show the same in B/L.

It is not mandatory in BL to show gross and net weight but if it show in BL it must in conflict with the data in any stipulated docs presented under the LC
