The Expression "On Or About" In UCP

Post by Sabrina » Tue Mar 27, 2012 8:56 pm

Dear Experts,

Seek your opinion with some example on below mentioned article 3 of UCP 600

Quote:
The expression "on or about" or similar will be interpreted as a stipulation that an event is to occur during a
period of five calendar days before until five calendar days after the specified date, both start and end dates
included.

Unquote.

Thank you,
Nitin

What opinion should be given except for the fact that the total period as described counts for 11 days?

Dear nitinkp,

I think the example may be as below:

Shipment On or about 05.03.2012 allows a period from 29.02.2012 to 10.03.2012.

Hi all,

I guess Nitin is looking at having more concrete examples on how this phrase can be used.

I found this weblink quite useful for me to understand the context of the term, so thought of sharing with you all:

Hope it helped you as much as it did for me. Always helps to know what it looks like in real life.

The expression "on or about"

Example:

Shipment must be made "on or about 15.04.2012"

It means shipment can be made anytime starting from 5 calender days before 15.04.2012 and up to 5 calender days after 15.04.2012..

that is from 10.04.2012 to 20.04.2012.
