Packing List and its function

Post by docwarrior » Wed Oct 02, 2019 6:46 pm

"Hallo" from Hamburg.
Dear all,
my collegues and I had a very tough discussion about compliant packing list. They argued that a document titled "packing list" (referring to ISBP 745, M1) showing gross and net weights is compliant. In my opinion a packing list only fulfills its function when it gives info about packing. Even if goods are unpacked it has to be mentioned in the packing list. Your knowlegde in this case is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
René

Hi Pal,

packing list is a document indicating the content of any packages, so that the receiver may choose the goods that he need first. Weight List must indicate the weight of each package to procure suitable device to unloading, carrying the goods etc. Sometime it is necessary to ask for a document indicationg the dimension too.

Many thanks for your answer. Packing list showing "only" delivered quantity of goods, gross/net weight and dimensions. No info abt packing (unit, case, carton, etc.). Compliant?

HI Pal,

packing lis, as per ISBP 745 M1, should indicateany information as to the packing of the goods, in your case it seems to me not assolving its function, but may be the cargo was in bulk.
However l/c terms will dictate the requirements of such document.

Hi Rene, to my opinion, provided the LC does not mention any data content, your colleagues are correct.

Title: to be as per LC or similar title or no title
Data: as per LC or "any" information as to the packing of the goods. "Any" does not require "All".
Issuer: as per LC or any entity* (*exception exists)

Gross and net weight are packing information.

Trust this clarifies.

Hi,

Packing have the standard globally and depends on Goods category.
Most of Packing list contains : packing type , Goods name , HS code , quantity , Gross weight , net weight , origin, Dimension, Shipping marks , etc.
Packing have the advantage to load / unload and to selecting and storing.
Also it is required as a documents.

Thanks
