Original B/L’s Shipped On Board Date

Hello,

With regards to the shipped on board date that is shown in the original b/l’s either on the bottom of the page or in the description of goods of the b/l‘s, please advise if it is an requirement or there is a rule under UCP600 where it states the shipped on board date must be signed or stamped by the shipping line or the agent?

The reason am asking as we have been shipping cargo with one of the major shipping lines and for these shipments under an l/c the carrier has signed and stamped both the shipped on board clause the also in the description of goods section where it also mentions the shipped on board date but now been informed due to their internal policy they will not include their stamp or signature anymore in the shipped on board section, the b/l will only include a signature next to the carrier / agents section: Signed on behalf of the carrier........................

Please advise if this is an issue with the bank when presenting the shipping documents to the bank.

Hi Pal,

UCP 600 Art. 20 ii indicates a Notation, this means that does not require a signature by the carrier or
its agent. Many banks continue to request such signature but the l/c must be so claused.
Some comments stated that other notations are written in the bill of lading, i.e. Freight Prepaid and
nobady asked for a carriers' signature.
