Shipped On Board And Stowed

Post by berry » Sat Nov 22, 2008 8:52 pm

dear all,

in this age of container shipment, we still see Bill of lading which says "shipped on board and stowed". so far i understand that in container there is nothing to be stowed. does that mean that the shipment is not by container?

regards

berry

Dear berry,
I think more details in the L/C and B/L are needed. For example, the trade term and requirements of B/L in the L/C. Though container is very popular, there are still some circumstances that voyage charter is used. So we may see FOB Stowed or FIOST,etc. That's why i need more details.

Dear Ofei,

I think voyage charter is not the right word to mention here. better word would be break bulk carrier. in that case, agree with you. there ares till such ships but limited to very short distances.

Tks for your reminding, shahriar. It seems I need to learn more shipping terms. There's always long way to go if you wanna do better.
