Hi Pals,

One more question on Bill of lading:

L/c calls for:

-Full set clean on board bill of lading made out to the order of XXXX, marked freight prepaid, notify: applicant, dated not later than Dec: 31, 2008:

Presented a RECEIVED FOR SHIPMENT Bill of lading showing:

-Pier or place of receipt: Qingdao-China

-Precarriage by: AAAA Voy. 026

-Vessel/voy(flag): BBBB Voy. 054

-Port of loading: Qingdao-China

-Port of discharge: La Spezia Port-Italy

-Place of delivery : La Spezia Port-Italy

Moreover Bill of lading is noted "LADEN ON BOARD THE VESSEL 20 Dec. 2008.

Is the Bill of lading acceptable?

Please let me know.

dear picant,

the bill of lading is not acceptable. you may like to consider ICC opinion R352 here which says
Example 1
Pier or Place of Receipt
Karachi/Pakistan

Pre-Carriage by
Vessel A

Vessel voy (Flag)
Vessel B

Port of Loading
Karachi/Pakistan

The bank will be looking for a) the name of the vessel on which the goods have been shipped, and b) the ports of loading and discharge, as shown in the credit, appearing in the respective boxes on the bill of lading.

Irrespective of whether or not the bill of lading is pre-printed "shipped on board", the bill of lading would need a separate on board notation which clearly shows the date the goods were loaded on board; the name of the ocean vessel (Vessel A) and the port of loading (Karachi/Pakistan). Absence of an on board notation as described herein would render the document discrepant.
