importance of vessel name

friends,

i need your opinion. why it is important for a bill of lading to have the name of the vessel. of course its a requirement of UCP. but why? what are the information that one gets from the name of the vessel?

a vessel name is important because it give you the following information

1. to find Sailing Schedules for a specific vessel.
2. Vessel Particulars including Lloyds Number, Year Built, Vessel Flag.

Hi Pals,

I agreed that with the name of vessel you can trace all details, to insure it or the like, but Vessel Name is compulsory in a Bill of Lading in many local laws, and in international rules.

i have heard that vessel name is required by the P&I club for insurance purpose. so a vessel name is important for the shipowners as well
