i was having another look at the FAQ 1. at question 20.2 it is said, if a photo copy of Bill of lading, marked original and signed by the carrier, is presented, it will be acceptable given that the conditions of article 17 and 20 complies. now my thinking is, when there is a photocopy, there must be an original from which it has been produced. if that is true, can we really say that the full set of bill of lading has been presented while the beneficiary actually presents the photocopy only.

I have a note, Doc. 470/TA 26 dd April 21, 1997, unfortunaely not the full text, that states:

-A bill of lading made out on a Photocopy of a Bill of Lading Form cannot be rejec ted for this reason, if is duly filled, signed and clearly marked as original.-

A misuse or an abuse is a problem of import/export manager, rather than a bank clerk/manager.

i think what the FAQ says is not the way shahriar has interpreted. i think it means that the carrier will infact make a photocopy of the original stationary and then fill it out in usual manner. as far as the original interpretation is concern, without having a look at the presented document, one cannot say anything. if it clearly appears to be a photocopy of a bill of lading, i do not think that any original mark or signature makes it acceptable.

by the way, in the age of true color photocopy, can some one tell me how to determine a document as a photocopy?
