160. The term "carrier" used in UCP 600 article 24 includes terms in transport documents such as "issuing carrier", "actual carrier", "succeeding carrier" and "contracting carrier".
could you please sight me an example of actual carrier and contracting carrier?
161. Any signature, stamp or notation of receipt on the transport document must appear to be made either by:
a. ....
b. a named agent acting or signing for or on behalf of the carrier and indicating the name and capacity of the carrier on whose behalf that agent is acting or signing.

what is the word acting doing here? and how to declare the capacity of the carrier?

dear friend

document cahecker is doing his job only with his documents

so agent acting or signing for or on behalf of the carrier should be considered as the agent acting or signing for the carrier if the dacument says on its face.

there is no concern to find out actual, contractual or others for the document checker.

am I right?

looking forward to seeing your opinions so I can be better ;)

im still puzzled

A contractual carrier may be a freight forwarder who picks up the goods on door-to-door basis and then entrusts all the shipment/orders to another (actual) carrier who actually effect shipment.
This is what I've read in some articles published by some transportation gurus. Sorry not having a document at hand.

The contractual carrier is a party which contracts carriage of goods for the account of the Merchants and fulfills its commitment by using the services of a carrier

However the question on the capacity of the signing party, and to answer that,
if an agent is signing, he should say on what capacity he is signing, whether as an agent for carrier / master or as carrier itself.
In any case, carrier to be identified

dear sir,

i want to know one thing. it is said in UCP that when the agent sign as the agent of the master, the name of the master need not to be mentioned because the name of the master may yet to be know by the agent. now i dont understand how can anyone act as a agent unless he or she know who is he acting for. isnt there a contradiction?

Actual carrier - Carrier undertakes responsibility for the transport of the goods and they liable to the shipper or consignee.

Contractual carrier - Freight forwarders conclude the contract with shipper, consolidate goods received from different shippers and deliver them to actual carriers responsible for their carriage. Then freight forwarder makes it contractual arrangements with the actual carrier.
