courier receipt to be signed

friends,

another question from ICC opinion. Opinion no. 668rev
By requiring a courier receipt (proving that a non negotiable shipping document has been sent to applicant)and not a copy of a courier receipt, an original courier receipt was required according to sub-article 17 (a). As mentioned in ICC Opinion TA 654rev, which was approved at the April 2008 Banking Commission meeting, an original courier receipt should be signed. However, the document in question has no signature space. The structure of a courier receipt is not governed by the UCP; this is for each courier company to determine. The ICC Banking Commission cannot dictate that a signature is required when the courier company's document does not require such
so what do we understand for it? if the courier receipt has a space for signature, then it must be signed. doesnt it go against the ISBP which says that a space for signature does not mean that it is to be signed.

i think the ISBP you are referring to actually deals with the bill of lading case where it has space for signature of the shipper. in such cases, the shipper signature is not required because it has no impact on determination of compliance of the transport document.

please also consider the fact courier receipt as a transport document and proof of sending documents are not different. they are the same. in both cases the courier company will sign the receipt.
