Re: seaway bill vs straight bill
Dear Shariar:
please rearrange as I cannot use the tabular form
The difference between straight and sea wea B/L:
straight B/L sea way B/L
A receipt of goods issued by the carrier yes yes
An evidence of contract bet.shipper & carr yes yes
Hague rule/Hague visby rules/Hamb.rules yes No/yes
Negotiable /Endrseble No No
Document of title yes/No No
Deliver against original T.D/indemnity Yes/No No
Bankers lien Clause No yes
Charge by carrier for issuance of Document yes No
I want to add more on sea way B/L
Advantage of Sea way B/L:
No need to produce the original transport document to claim goods. from the carrier.
No worries for loss of the transport document.
straight forward and faster delivery from the carrier.
There is no separate charge for issuance of the sea waybill by the carrier.
Application of the sea way bill:
To enable the consignee or holder to claim delivery without presentation of the original transport document.
Inter branches (of the same organisation) despatch.
Shipment to open Account customers.
Value of cargo not exceeding US$ 500,000 according to LIOD's recommendation
To prevent the seller changing the name of the consignee as he wishes.

Re: Differences Between Seaway Bill & Straight Bill Of Lading
Hi
I think the difference is in their use.
where a bill of lading was made out to a named consignee ('straight consigned bill of lading'), but contained a general clause or proviso on its face, according to which surrender of the bill of lading was required to obtain delivery of the
goods from the carrier.
Therefore, this type of bill of lading can be used in payment methods such as Collection's. When it is emphasized that the straight bill of lading was required to obtain delivery of the goods from the carrier.
In this case, payment security is created for the seller. This means that the documents will not be delivered to the buyer unless the buyer accepts payment or acceptance the bill of exchange and will not be able to deliver the goods Without submitting the original bill of lading to carrier.
