What are the uses of value date?

whenever i issue an reimbursement instruction, the people dealing with out nostro accounts put emphasis on value date. could someone please explain me what are the uses of value date

Dear Jim,
Thanks, I thinks it's very important for the treasuary department because of on the due date or value date, they will place the fund to honor the payment.without the value date, bank will lose some interest due to keep the fund idle in nostro account. :lol:
