Can B/L has two on board notations inspite of only one port of loading?

I also need a clarification

But this is what i understand,
Two onboard date is possible if a transhipment happens
EX: P.O.L : Chennai
P.O.D : Srilanka
Vessel : A
Onboard 01 March 2009

Transhipment may happen @ tuticorin ,(shipment is transferred from Vessel A to Vessel B) followed by a Onboard date 03 March 2009

I think that B/L can not have two on board notations in spite of of only one port of loading.
As per UCP 600 an on board notation must indicate date on which the goods have been shipped on board.
If the two on board notations will be on B/L with one port of loading which of dates will be considered as the shipment date for calculation of maturity dates?

ISBP has article about two on board notations with ports within a permitted geographical area or region.
Please refer to article 43 e.

i wil agree with haribargava. if there is a transshipment, it is possible to have two on board notation. however in that case one on board notation must specifically relate to the port of lading as stated in the credit.

The practice actually answers differently to your question. I've seen a lot of BL with a pre-carriage vessel from the port stated in the credit and then goods reloaded on an OCEAN VESSEL with another on-board notation. ISBP does not make any reference to that because it is a transshipment process which cannot account for any maturity date.

It is possible for B/L to contain more than one of an on board notation, in case shipments are from more than one terminal within the same port.

The bill of lading must contain clear evidence that any shipped on board date relates to a named vessel at the port of loading stated in the credit. Thus the on board notation indicating loading on the vessel at the port specified in credit should be taken as the on on board date.

Pls clarify in what situations other than precarriage tow on board notations are observed.

Although there is no ISBP exactly answering your question, you may refer to ISBP 43e. It states that "if a bill of lading showing more than one on board noation.......". It also gives an example which implies these on board should have a separate port of loading and on board for each notation. It may also reflect that the shipment date would be the earliest of these on board date.
