In a credit requires presentation of - A copy of beneficiary's fax sent to Applicant which states the B/L no., Shipment date, Vessel name.
We have recived a B/L stating the following;

B/L No. CD453

RD11992

And the beneficiary's fax states the B/L No. as RD11992

Would this be considered as a discrepancy ?

Noting that after we have issued our MT 734 saying that ( The Beneficiary's fax indicating incorrect B/L No. ) we have been contacted by the confirming bank that this is the internal B/L no. for the shipping company and should not be a discrepancy, and asking us to remit proceeds in full without deducting any charges.

I appreciate your opinion.

dear Ybattia
Keeping in view art 14f , when credit states data content of any document, the incomplete Bl no. or incorrect number will make presnation not complying,and discripant. Your MT 734 will ramain valid, if the part number is not shown as BL anwhere on transport document.

dear Ybattia,

you did mention exactly how these two numbers where written on the bill of lading. its not unusual for a bill of lading to have two numbers; one is generally quoted a bill of lading no. and other is generally the booking no. or control no. booking no. or control no. are generally for the use of carrier. now its clear from your post that the fax copy shows bill of lading no. as RD11992.

has this been shown on the BL as the BL no? if this is shows as booking no, the presentation is discrepant.

if the BL no. is shown as CD453 - RD11992, the presentation is discrepant.

in simple word, bill of lading no. must be exactly the same as that of quoted on the bill of lading. we need to remember that bill of lading no. on such shipment advice is a critical piece of information. without it its difficult to trace the cargo and hence the very purpose of the shipment advice hampers
