dear all,

if a charter party bill of lading shows more than one port of loading, but only one shipped on board notation, is it a discrepancy? if there are more than one port of loading, should we accept a preprinted shipped on board bill of lading?

No this is not a discrepancy, provided that the credit states a geographical area for these ports of loading, and it should be states in the ports of lading ( i.e. Alexandria Port, Egypt )

ISBP 121 states;
If a credit gives a geographical area or range of ports of loading or discharge (e.g., “Any
European Port”), the charter party bill of lading must indicate the actual port or ports of
loading, which must be within the geographical area or range stated in the credit...

On the other hand, concerning your question about the shipped on board, please refer to ISBP 119 which states:

If a pre-printed “Shipped on board” charter party bill of lading is presented, its issuance
date will be deemed to be the date of shipment unless it bears an on board notation, in
which event the date of the on board notation will be deemed to be the date of shipment
whether or not the on board date is before or after the issuance date of the document.

in my opinion only one shipped on board notation is enough. because a shipped on board notation indicates that whatever is mentioned on the bill of lading has been shipped. so even if we put separate notation for each port, how we are going to find to which part of the good the shipped on board relates? if there is more than one shipped on board notation, the latest will be consider for calculation of any presentation period.

If there are more than one place of shipments indicated on the transport documents, on Board notation and name of Port of loading +Vessel name is must to determine the actual port of loading.
