It is possible, I think not for negotiation, moreover the expiry date could be in the Country of beneficiry, so the beneficiry can present documents within the expiry date to a bank in its Country, supporting the risk of loss of the documents in transit, in the past said "expiry date... in Beneficiary's Country for docs presentation only".
