Hi all
we recently recieved a set of shipping docs and on close examination the B/l was not initially consign to the order of our bank rather straightly consigned to the beneficiary.
Nevertheless this 'omission' was altered and in handwriten manner with the stamp of the beneficiary authenticating the alteration. is this allowed? moreso that a B/l is a third party document :-s
i await your responses thanks
Orunmila

In case beneficiary is carrier or act as the agent of the carrier or master then yes he can.
If not you will be well advised not to accept a non-neghotiable seaway i/o B/L as it looks like from your post

Hi

Did the bene actually correct /change the consignee on the face of the BL?

If he did then that's a no no unless ... as explained by cristiand.... quite nicely...

Cheers
