name of the master is not rerquired when an agent of it sign

Post by admin » Sat May 17, 2008 6:59 pm

Dear Sir,
Pls comment on the following issue:
UNDER UCP 500, the name of the master is required when an agent of it sign on the B/L
UNDER UCP 600, the name of the master need not to mention for the same.
Query:
the reason for changes?

thanks

Hi!

Similar questions was recently discussed or better to say was tried to be discussed in other places.

Unfortunately, no exact answers were found - only suggestions.
This is because basis of such differences is lying within field of marine carriages with their rules, practice etc.
And, unfortunately, it is very few of marine "all-know" professionals among our brothers (and sisters) in doc credits.
And even these few men are hidden :)))

Our Bibles are UCP600+ISBP :)))
And as far as it is stated that should be so - it to be so. No alternatives :)))

Good luck

I draw your kind attention to the explanation in "commentary on UCP 600" page 105 para. 5 .
it is to some extent self-explanatory.

Hello Nesar,

UCP-600, does not require the name of the Master, when an agent signs the B/l due to the fact that the Agent is not sure which master (captain ) will sail the ship. I beleive this could be the one of the reason why ucp-600 does not require the name of the Master.
.
Hope I am helpful to some extent in answering your query.

the name of master (captain ) unknown to the agent

When signing the BL,the agent may not know the name of master (captain )or may be not sure wheather the master (captain) will be the same person .Sometimes the master (captain) will not be appointed until the vessel set off.

Hi !

I think the change make the articles more reasonable. If the name of master is not required when the master signs the B/L, I have no idea why it is required when its agent signs. :-?
