Re: conferrance vessel certificate
Dear Pal,
Conference is an organisation of a group of Shipping lines, operating in one trade, who agree to have a common tariff. But I dare say having some characteristics in using same class of vessels, same services, in a sort of trust. A part the use of " certificates that the carrier or the vessels belong to a Conference Line (or the like)" requested by L/C, it became a topic as the Europen Union prohibited this type of trust, starting from October 2008. In few words shipping lines operating with vessels from/to EU ports are not allowed to be member of a Conference and must be competitors. So, if a L/C requests the a.m. certificate (Shipping Line Certificate that they or operating vessels belongs to a Conference line or the like) is not more available for shipment to/from EU Ports, and L/C must be amended consequently. IMHO ICC had to issue an opinion or position paper that a L/C requesting such Conference Certificate, in shipments from/to EU ports, would be satisfy in presenting a substitute declaration by l/c beneficiary that such Certificate was not more available.
Sorry for not have been so clear!!
Ciao
